In the Ocean Beach (bordering on Point Loma) space previously occupied by Sessions Public, Jordan and Mariah Brownwood helm Royale Burgers & Cocktails with a focus on seasonal menus.
For the Brownwoods, a sustainable ethos is par for the course; their farm in Valley Center, Nopalito, provides produce for many San Diego restaurants, and their organic, fresh hops make their way into local beers every summer and fall — stay tuned for more details on a September 16 hop-focused event.
Last month, Royale was the first bar to sell the new “1542 California Native Botanical Gin” by East Village’s Old Harbor, which features lemonade berry, white sage, black sage, Cleveland sage, Artemisia, and yucca flour. Many of those botanicals were grown at Nopalito Farm.
As the days heat up, Jordan and Mariah have invited guest bartenders to create “ingredient-driven cocktails” for their “In Good Company” bar takeover series.
Tonight, Stephen Kurpinsky from George’s at the Cove, fresh off a trip to New Orleans for the annual Tales of the Cocktail conference, crafts cocktails featuring ŌME Spirits and passionfruit from Nopalito.
Kurpinsky, local chapter president of the United States Bartenders Guild, will be behind the stick from 7 – 10 p.m., with music provided by local DJs The Office Twins.
